    Description

    BATTLESHIP -
    USS TENNESSEE BB-43 SHELLBACK,
each new sailor who crosses the equator for the first time goes through an elaborate ceremony, and receives Shellback certificate as a souvenir. The frame measures about 23 - 1/2 inches wide by 19 - 1/2 inches high. The certificate measures 18 - 3/4 inches wide by 14 - 3/4 inches high. I tried to take several photos showing some of the GREAT detail and information contained in the certificate.
One of the coolest items is the ship's position. It says it is bound "secret for the equator and for the destruction of all the Armed Forces of the Japanese."
The sailor is named as Frank Thomas Novak, Jr., and is dated June 5, 1944. ( One Day before NORMANDY Invasion ) Comes matted and framed. The colors are still vivid. A few very minor pieces of dirt are on the certificate, but nothing serious, and none detract from the overall appearance.
frame looks old and may be orignal has some bumps and scratches.
